Focused on Performance
With typical delivery methods, changing channels is a multi-step process that can take up to 15 seconds on a wireless network. This has always been a primary issue with unicast services. MobiTV's new Optimized Delivery Server technology, currently deployed as a component of the Connected Media Solution, makes it possible to change channels in less than one second.
By combining the Optimized Delivery Server’s fast channel change capabilities with its advanced bandwidth adaptation and quality of service control, MobiTV now delivers a service that is on par or better than any mobile broadcast TV technology over unicast, marking the first step in creating a blended solution that utilizes the best of both worlds.
Targeted Ad Insertion
MobiTV’s Optimized Delivery Server enables new advertising insertion solutions including in-stream insertion for live and clip linear content and post and pre-roll ad placements for VOD and downloaded content. The solution also enables the insertion of personalized, targeted ads to be delivered to a specific user based on the user’s available profile information. This means that two viewers watching the same channel at the same time can now receive two different advertisements that are targeted specifically for each user.
Bandwidth Adaptation & Smoothing
Radio networks provide a dynamic and changing environment. If conditions change while a user is receiving media, the quality is likely to be impacted unless the size of the stream is able to adapt as well.
MobiTV’s Optimized Delivery Server provides Bandwidth Adaptation, via Stream Switching, Stream Thinning, and Rate Shaping, which dynamically adjusts the bit rate of the streamed data to match existing network conditions. Our technology also provides Bandwidth Smoothing to account for points in the data delivery where the bit rate peaks to accommodate a larger amount of data being sent. By smoothing peaks to a more consistent bandwidth, data is delivered as evenly as possible and packet loss is diminished.
