Official “Nod” by Hollywood Signifies Growing Importance of Mobile
Entertainment
and Recognizes MobiTV’s Leadership and Innovation
MobiTV, the world’s first global television network and technology company
providing live television on mobile phones, today announced it has been awarded
an Emmy® Award by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The Emmy Award
for Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Development is issued by the Academy
to recognize developments that are so innovative in nature as to have materially
affected the transmission, recording and reception of television. MobiTV will
receive this award at the 2005 Primetime Emmy Creative Arts Awards ceremony that
will be held September 11, 2005 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. “I
believe MobiTV set the standard and started the race for mobile television,” said
Brian Seth Hurst, co-governor, Interactive Media Peer Group for the Television
Academy.
Carrier partner Sprint is also receiving an award for
its role in pioneering mobile television as it was the
first wireless carrier to introduce the MobiTV® service
in late 2003. The two companies have continued their pioneering efforts, introducing
a video-on-demand service in late 2004. Nearly two years since its launch,
MobiTV continues to lead the market and has quickly become the television standard
on mobile devices. The service is now available on multiple carriers in the
US and has recently expanded to carriers in the United Kingdom, Canada and
South America. On the new 3G wireless networks, MobiTV has taken the technology
to the next level by offering near broadcast quality audio and frame rates,
delivering an unprecedented mobile television experience.
By partnering with leading wireless carriers and TV
content brands to deliver a variety of news, sports and
entertainment channels, the service has become an unequivocal
success and continues to win over television viewers.
MobiTV currently offers over 25 channels of both live
and made-for-mobile content directly to the end user’s handset. The service is as easy to use as
a TV remote control and works with over 50 different phones across multiple
wireless network technologies.
On Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, the Creative Arts Awards program will be pre-taped
and aired in a two-hour special on Sept. 17 at 7:00 p.m. on E! Entertainment
Television. |
