MobiTV Announces Support for WiMAX

Mobile Television Leader Supports WiMAX Deployment and Development, Allowing Consumers and Carriers Economical and Seamless Access to TV Everywhere

EMERYVILLE, CA, August 8, 2006 – MobiTV, Inc. the global leader in television and digital radio services for cellular, WiFi and broadband enabled devices, today announced its official support for the WiMAX standard.  MobiTV has been investing heavily in research and technology development to support the latest wireless network standards and the company is now committed to deploying advanced mobile television and media delivery services over WiMAX networks.  The support for the new 802.16 standards has been under development at MobiTV for the past several quarters in partnership with several leaders in the wireless and technology industries.

“WiMAX is one of the most promising new wireless technologies to emerge over the last several years.  We are working hard to integrate it with a broad range of emerging video and television technologies, both wired and wireless,” said Phillip Alvelda, CEO and co-founder for MobiTV.  “As we have said in the past, the consumer market is looking for a compelling video user experience, and has to be simple and accessible with a seamless blending of technologies that hide all of the network integration complexity in a cost effective manner.”

WiMAX is the latest extension to the Company’s portfolio of supported network technologies, with features designed to support all of the key components that make mobile television viable to consumers and carriers alike.  Those key features and benefits include:

  • Smooth integration with, and natural extension to existing service infrastructure
  • Efficient full-duplex bi-directional delivery with full transactional capabilities
  • Superior data delivery performance for full-motion video (due to its advanced IP based architecture)
  • Support for a combination of Unicast and Multi-cast delivery models for optimal network utilization
  • Full interactivity; which includes m-commerce, voting and other capabilities consumers, carriers and the advertising community wants
  • Targeted national, regional, and local advertising
  • Breadth of channels; there are no channel limitations with Unicast or WiMAX
  • Increased channel change speed
  • Broad client device support including; mobile phones, PDAs, laptops, set top boxes and more (radios in mass market devices)
  • Broad industry support and open-standards based
  • Support for the rapid deployment of new applications and services (extensions to the MobiTV service) at a low incremental cost

MobiTV expects to continue conducting research on a number of network standards as they emerge in order to meet the needs of the Company’s international partners.
