MobiTV partners with NBC for Notre Dame football app |
By Jason
Ankeny Mobile broadcast solutions provider MobiTV announced
the launch of NBC Sports' new Notre Dame Central App,
promising iPhone and iPod touch users live coverage
of the Fighting Irish's eight 2009 home football games.
The app will simulcast NBC Sports' live broadcast coverage
via both 3G and WiFi--coverage began last Saturday
with Notre Dame's 35-0 thrashing of Nevada, and will
resume on Sept. 19 with the Irish's inevitable loss
to the Michigan State Spartans. Other marquee matchups
include USC (Oct. 17), Boston College (Oct. 24) and
Navy (Nov. 7). In addition to the live game coverage, Notre Dame Central boasts video-on-demand highlights including interviews, press conferences and full game recaps from the NBC Sports Archives. The app also features a fully interactive schedule promising live scoring, stats and news alerts. Notre Dame Central is available for download from the App Store for $6.99. In related MobiTV news, the firm released a new Ultimate Fighting Championship app for iPhone that it says heralds the first time pay-per-view content has been optimized for viewing on mobile devices. While the UFC app itself costs 99 cents, each UFC event costs $44.99--viewers who pony up for the PPV broadcast can watch it live on their iPhones and revisit the broadcast for 24 hours after it airs. The app also features exclusive video-on-demand content, interviews, breaking news and Octagon Girl bios.
